The Arden chapter of BNI, the world’s largest business referral organization, opened in Sacramento, California Wednesday, November 30th.
Regular meetings are held at 7am to 8:30am on Wednesdays at:
Mimi’s Cafe Arden
2029 Alta Arden Expressway
Sacramento, CA 95825
The meeting is open to all business people who want to grow their businesses using word of mouth marketing techniques.
The chapter members currently include; Real Estate Agent, Website Designer, Insurance Brokers, Chiropractor, Mortgages, Financial Planner, IT, Nonprofit, Title, Writer, Mediation, and Attorney and others looking help their members receive qualified referrals.
BNI has chapters throughout the United States and 50 other countries. A chapter provides professionals in a variety of occupations a weekly opportunity to meet with each other and pass qualified referrals. At each meeting, members briefly introduce their businesses and share the types of referrals they would like to receive. Because only one person from each business category is allowed in each chapter, a person can “lock out” competitors by quickly joining a new BNI chapter.
The BNI Arden Chapter currently has vacancies for a Mechanic, Business Coach, Photographer, Graphic Designer, HVAC, House Cleaner, Merchant Services, Banker, Greeting Cards, Printer, and Skin Care / Cosmetics to receive qualified referrals.

BNI Granite Bay Business Builders Kick-Off
Congratulations to Area Director Brian Bentzen who last Thursday conducted a very successful kick off of the newest BNI Central Valley chapter – The Granite Bay Business Builders (GB3). Well done to all the chapter members on your efforts and energy.
The Granite Bay Business Builders had an excellent kick off at the Quarry Ponds Complex. BNI Granite Bay Business Builders is the third new BNI Central Valley chapter this year, and the sixth chapter formed in Placer County.
This is a chapter full of members with attitude! They first began to form back in January and within 3 months they grew to 16 new members. They did themselves proud at their kick off celebration. There were able to attract 22 visitors with 17 prospective new members present. A number of the visitors completed applications at the meeting with 5 applications submitted on kick off day. They will soon qualify for the 2011 BNI Membership Extravaganza.
The chapter president, Gary Frontiera and the other members of his team have started what I’m sure will be a very strong chapter as “Granite” makes a strong foundation to build upon.
Congratulations to all BNI Granite Bay Business Builders chapter members! I’m looking forward to hearing big things about the chapter! The BNI Granite Bay Business Builders chapter meets Thursdays at 9am at:
Quarry Ponds Town Center
“Granite” Community Meeting Room,
5520 Douglas Blvd Ste 130
Granite Bay, CA, 95814
Go check it out for yourself! I’m looking forward to visiting the chapter June 23rd.
March Leadership Team Training
By guest blogger Debbie Ruiz
As you know BNI regions throughout the USA conduct leadership team trainings each March and September. Quite often we’re asked “Why do I need to attend this training, when I went to the last one?”
My answer is very simple: To stay up to date. You have to think of BNI as a business and each chapter being a branch of that business. Just as any business would like it’s upper level of management (a.k.a. the leadership team) trained and kept up to date on a regular basis, so does BNI.
This time around we have some major changes, good changes, coming for the leadership teams and the members. We will be unveiling the new BNI Connect Global website at the March Leadership Team Training. BNI created a Linkedin type website for all its members that combines the Linkedin type connections and groups, with statistical record keeping for our Leadership Teams and individual chapter websites where each member is listed, along with what the Chapter has been able to accomplish over the past month, as well as our normal BNI CV website.
Because of this not only do we want our leadership teams to be at the Leadership Team Trainings but we’d love for all members to be there for the first hour and half.
Learning is not a spectator sport. – Chickering and Gamson

BNI Elk Grove “Mini Regional”
By guest blogger Debbie Ruiz (BNI Central Valley Area Director)
The Elk Grove Founders and Elk Grove Rock Stars co-hosted a mini regional event today bringing together 48 BNI members and potential members, representing 8 chapters. They all came to hear Area Director Al Seaton present his workshop (based on UK National Director Phil Berg’s talk for Directors) “Grow your Chapter to 40 Plus”. Al did a great job of presenting ideas that were right on point and relevant to all the chapters present, including two that are forming chapters. Ideas like don’t invite potential members to your chapter, bring them to your chapter and accountability is crucial.
Thank you again to Kathy Martinez (President – Elk Grove Founders) and Michael Pickens (President – Elk Grove Rock Stars) for a great job promoting this event. A thank you also to the chapter members from Elk Grove Founders, Elk Grove Rock Stars, Elk Grove Harvesters, Elk Grove Rainmakers, Lodi Founders, Turlock Breakfast Club, and forming chapters Natomas and Lideres of Sacramento. You all did a fantastic job representing your businesses and your chapters.
BNI Celebrates 25 Years in Style
Ivan Misner started BNI in 1985 as a survival strategy. 2010 marks BNI’s 25th anniversary. It is now the world’s most successful and largest business referral organization. In the past 25 years the BNI system has generated in excess of $21 billion income for its members! Speaking of members, as of November 12th, BNI has 132,706 members in 5,802 chapters from 47 countries.
Last week I attended the 25th anniversary BNI International Directors’ conference in Anaheim California. Over 600 BNI directors from around the globe were there for the celebration. Furthermore, Eva and I were accompanied by 11 of own directors; Al Seaton, Andrea Boyd, Brian Bentzen, Brooke Hammett, Carl Stange, Debbie Ruiz, Jenny Ebinger, John McCann, Karen Wells, Naresh Patel, and Tim McGinnis. Thank you to all of you for being there.
On the morning of Friday, November 12th over 900 directors and members heard Ivan Misner deliver his Founders’ Address. For me, this was the highlight of the conference. Ivan’s presentation was packed with inspiration, motivation and information. He reminded us all that “attitude is better than aptitude” a concept with which all of us in BNI Central Valley are very familiar. In addition, Dr. Misner highlighted the chief lessons learned during the first 25 years:
1. Culture eats strategy for breakfast! BNI’s culture is Givers Gain. These two words are the foundation and reason for the organization’s stellar growth, and the basis for countless member success stories!
2. It’s not about a meeting its an experience. Keep the fun in the fundamentals.
3. Attitude first, aptitude second. We can teach everything else if the attitude is right.
4. It’s not about places or professions, it’s all about people. We do business with people because of the right chemistry.
As we move into the next 25 years Ivan highlighted BNI’s high tech endeavors, but he also emphasized the continued importance of high touch. BNI will continue to be built on relationships based on mutual trust as the road map for the next 25 years!
